The Breaks is located near Pikeville, KY approximately 2 hours east of the Red River Gorge. This park consists of a deep gorge cut by the Russell Fork River that has 100-foot sandstone cliffs offering single pitch sport or trad climbing.


The Breaks Interstate Park is a great option that has a unique & adventurous feel and is less crowded than the Red River Gorge.

How our Trips Work

Make Reservations

Make your reservation online! Note: we have limited online availability. Please call or email and we will try hard to get a date that works for you.

2 Days Prior to your

Reserved Date

You will receive a call from your instructor(s). We will gather info about your climbing experience and any goals you might have. We will discuss an equipment list including obtaining your climbing shoe, harness and helmet sizes. You will pay in full for your trip at this time.

Meet at the Breaks Interstate Visitors Center

Meet your instructor the day of your reservation at the Visitor's Center 10 minutes before your reserved start time. Use 627 Commission Circle, Haysi, VA 24256 for directions.

Head to the Crag

From the visitor’s center there may be a short drive and hike. Hike may be between 10 - 20 minutes. Begin with a basic belay instruction at the cliff and start climbing!

Begin with basic belay instruction at the cliff and start climbing! Continue to climb and learn as the instructor helps to hone your skills and provide direction for the day.

Wrap Up

The instructor will leave you with a brief outline of things for you to continue to focus on or plans for what will be covered on your next trip.

Where to Stay
